Der Challenge Kraichgau präsentiert von KraichgauEnergie kann auch in diesem Jahr wieder eine Vielzahl an internationalen Topathleten und Ironmansiegern vorzeigen.

Männer:

Vorjahresgewinner Sebastian Kienle aus Knittlingen wird sich gegen den zweifachen Hawaiisieger Normann Stadler und den aktuellen Challenge-Roth-Sieger Michael Göhner beweisen müssen. Die weitere internationale Elite kommt mit dem Vorjahreszweiten James Cunnama aus Südafrika und dem Hawaii-Dritten von 2008 Rutger Beke aus Belgien. Auch der Franzose François Chabaud und Paul Ambrose aus Australien sind heiße Kandidaten auf eine vordere Platzierung. Einen Platz unter den Top 10 strebt auch der Bruchsaler Thomas Hellriegel an.
 

Frauen:

Bei den Frauen werden sich wie im vergangenen Jahr Rebekah Keat aus Australien und Wenke Kujala aus Hilpoltstein messen. Mit der Duathlon-Weltmeisterin Ulrike Schwalbe und der Finnin Tiina Boman kommen weitere Topathletinnen in den Kraichgau.

Sebastian Kienle


Sebastian ist ein alter Bekannter im Kraichgau, er ist seit 2006 jedes Jahr bei uns gestartet. Sebastian konnte im letzten Jahr so ziemlich alles gewinnen, was er in Angriff genommen hat. Dabei hat der für Tri-Team Heuchelberg startende starke Radfahrer auch gezeigt, dass er schnell laufen kann. 2009 hat er im Kraichgau mit einer Endzeit von 3:53h und einem Radschnitt von 41km/h eine Bombe gezündet. Sebastians Ziel ist die Langdistanz, auf den Wechsel bereitet er sich akribisch vor. Er wird dieses Jahr in Roth erstmalig über die 226km starten, für 2011 steht dann Hawaii auf dem Plan.

Normann Stadler


Normann, der als Radfahrer und Duathlonweltmeister seine sportliche Karriere begann, konnte sich gleich zweimal den Titel auf Hawaii - 2004 und 2006 - holen. Der bärenstarke Radfahrer, der auch schon den IM Switzerland und zwei Mal den IM Australia gewinnen konnte, schloss im letzten Jahr seinen Frieden mit Roth, wo er bisher nie das Ziel erreichte: mit neuer persönlicher Bestzeit von 8:03h und einem um wenige Sekunden verfehlten Radstreckenrekord wurde er Vierter. Bekannt für seine Radstärke führte er auch 2009 den Ironman Hawaii an, musste aber aufgrund von Krämpfen das Rennen vorzeitig beenden. 2010 wird er erstmalig bei uns im Kraichgau starten, um anschliessend erneut in Roth anzutreten.

Michael Göhner


Seinen größten Erfolg errang der Schwabe beim Challenge Roth 2009. Mit einer Gesamtsieger-Zeit unter der magischen 8h-Marke wurde er Deutscher Meister im Triathlon über die Langdistanz. Die Wurzeln des Familienvaters liegen im Laufen. Nach einem Interview mit Olympiasieger Dieter Baumann trainierte er erfolgreich zunächst in der Leichtathletik auf den Mittelstrecken. Bei seinem ersten Marathon im Alter von 21 Jahren realisierte der Reutlinger eine Zeit von 2:23h. Nach Verletzungen wurde der Triathlet Göhner geboren. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit konnte Göhner mit einem Top5-Platz beim Challenge Roth finishen.

James Cunnama


James ist Profi-Triathlet aus Port Elizabeth, Süd Africa. Er betreibt Triathlon seit 2005 mit dem Hauptfokus auf Ironman-Rennen. Im letzten Jahr belegte er bei uns im Kraichgau Platz 2 des Challenge-Rennens.

James is a professional triathlete based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He has been competeing in triathlons since 2005. His main focus is the Ironman Triathlon. James started life in one of the major centres for endurance sport in South Africa, Pietermaritzburg. Coming from a very sporty family with both parents having completed multiple Comrades Marathons and Dusi Canoe Marathons, James discovered the joys of long distance running at a young age. While most of his peers were staying up late and sleeping in, James was doing the opposite and getting up on cold, dark winter mornings for pre-dawn runs with his mother’s running group (an eclectic bunch of much older runners called ‘The Pukers’) fuelling dreams of Comrades Marathon greatness. James soon discovered that the longer the race the better he fared, having a talent for endurance sports. James focused on long-distance running, completing half-marathons at the tender age of 16, easily winning the Junior category at a number of local races. In 2002 James moved to Port Elizabeth in order to study for a degree in Human Movement Science at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and at the same time turned his attention to middle-distance track in order to improve his speed over all distances. Ironically, it was this move away from Pietermaritzburg, one of the multi-sport capitals of the country, which led James to triathlon. In 2004 the Spec-Savers Half-Ironman came to PE for the first time and James was drafted into the volunteer ranks to assist in race-day organisation. The next year the real thing, the Ironman, came to town and James became more involved in the organisation. This first-hand encounter with one of the toughest single-day endurance events in the world opened the door to a new world and James was bitten by the notorious ‘triathlon bug’, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Paul Ambrose


Der Australier Paul trainiert oft mit seinem Landsmann Chris McCormack. 2009 konnte er im Kraichgau Platz 6 des top-besetzten Challenge-Rennens belegen.

Paul Ambrose 31/07/1984 (25) born Sydney Australia with duel citizenship (UK british parents). Started triathlon in 2000 after the Sydney Olympics. Have raced all distances from Sprint - Ironman. First Olympic distance race was the Australian Champs which i placed 1st. First half Ironman i raced i placed 3rd. Placed 3rd in the High School national Champs after my first year in triathlon Have just started racing some of the full Ironman distance with my best time and place 5th and time 8.24 in IM Arizona 2009. Am renowned as a biker with setting the fastest bike split and 1st off the bike in ITU World LD Champs Perth 2009, but have come as a swimming background swimming since the age of 10. Long time training partner and close friend Chirs McCormack, both come from the same area south of Sydney where also World Champion Craig Alexander/ Greg Welsh/ M-Jones to name a few also come from. Carrier highlights 4x 70.3 podiums, 3rd Challenge Barcelona, 5th ITU World Champs, 5th IM Arizona 09/ Australia 10. Lifestyle - love the beach, am a summer and surf kind of guy, don't mind having a few nights out and a few too many alcoholic beverages. Aaron Farlow


Der Australier Aaaron Farlow hat im Jahr 2009 bei einer ausgedehnten Europatour eine starke Duftmarke gesetzt. Farlow, in Deutschland bis dahin eher ein Unbekannter, überzeugte mit starken Liga-Resultaten. Beim Challenge Kraichgau konnte der gelernte Wasserinstallateur den 3. Platz erreichen. Aktuell wird der Australier auf dem 8. Platz der ITU Langdistanzrangliste weltweit geführt. Das "dark horse" Farlow wird bei uns mit Sicherheit wieder für ein Podiumplatz gut sein.

Rebekah Keat


Die Australierin Rebekah Keat ist bereits mehrfache Weltmeisterin. Den Ironman Hawaii konnte sie bereits auf Platz 6 finishen. Während ihrer Schulzeit war sie aktiv beim Cross-Lauf und Schwimmen. Ihre Zwillingsschwester Simone war stets die erfolgreichere der beiden Keat-Schwerstern. Die Australierin ist als Botschafterin der Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA) im Dienst. Sie betreut dort Trainer sowie Athleten in Sachen Nahrungsergänzungsmittel und hält zudem Vorträge. Beachtliche Erfolge kann die Australierin über die Mitteldistanz aufweisen. Seit 2009 ist sie Mitglied im Team TBB, das schon Atleten wie Chrissie Wellington und Belinda Granger in der Weltspitze etablieren konnte.

Wenke Kujala


Zum Triathlon ist Wenke eher durch Zufall gekommen. Nachdem sie in ihrer Kindheit eher Leichtathletik und Volleyball betrieben hatte, hat es sie eher aus einer Laune heraus zum Schwimmtraining eines Triathlon Vereins getrieben. Ihr Ergeiz hat ihr dann keine Ruhe gelassen, bis sie, gut ein halbes Jahr später, ihren ersten Triathlon absolvierte. Ihre sportliche Karriere ist bisher immer wieder durch Rückschläge gekennzeichnet. Vom Spätsommer 2004 bis Spätherbst 2005 hatte sie zeitweise große Angst, den Sport nie wieder auf diesem Level ausüben zu können. Das Pfeiffersche Drüsenfieber hatte sie erwischt und wurde leider lange nicht erkannt. Mittlerweile ist es ausgeheilt und sie genieße den Sport heute mit viel mehr Vernunft.
